Editing software

i didnt know if i should post a new topic for this...but i needa make a small movie like thing for school, im using my dads sony cybershot camera (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyh7/) and im needing some pretty basic editing software just to cut scenes, add captions and smallish things like that. does anyone have any recommendations for me?
p.s. it must be free.haha.

Re: Editing software

depending on the type of files you will be editing(mpeg/avi...) i'd say Womble is your best bet for free a editor.

Re: Editing software

...or if you are using Windows you could always go with the Movie Maker software already included. its very basic and very easy to learn. Look in your program files folder.

Re: Editing software

Movie maker is good for small projects, but i still find that Sony Vegas is one of the best editors out there. Its a little harder to use, but after playing around, it becomes quite intuative, and it offers much greater freedom than Movie Maker. It also works really well (even on slow PCs). Getting hold off it is the onl problem as it is rather pricey.
