The massive roaring sound of a Skyline GTR isn’t exactly my calling to go on road trip, but when i had the chance to jump in and go to East London to hang with 2 of my boys I knew it was going to be a wild weekend…

What an awesome event! 1300+ riders from around the world converged in Petermaritzburg for the UCI BMX World Championships. Riders from 38 countries participated and South Africa did really well. Gold Medals galore, crazy action all day and not too many serious injuries, which is always a good thing.
Being the only bike shop at the event sure has its Pro’s and Cons, I was holed up in the shop for most of the week so I did not get to see much of the racing, however I did close shop for a couple of minutes to absorb the Elite Mens finals on Saturday. You have never seen anything like it!

Only a hand full of overseas companies are on the ball with a new ‘steel’ sprocket idea, Salvo are already pumping out prototypes. Believe this- steel sprockets are going to be a thing of the future. Gerie and Toby dropped by the Store and revealed this beaut. A 130 gram chromo plate-steel sprocket. The machining is flawless and the design simplistic but beautiful. Lookout for these at BMX Direct in the near future? More than likely.
Would you rock one? Let us know in the comments.

The Richards Bay “No Pro’s Jam” was a huge success! Although it rained heavily the night before the park was quickly mopped and dried early the next sunny morning.
Big shout out to Rock Star and Fit Bike Co. for the hooks ups on the day. Thanks to Rico for shooting photos.
