I am in the process of setting up a summer school program for young riders in the Durban area. How cool would it be to have your laaitie taught the basics of BMX by some local Pro’s?
At the moment, plans are to have a once-a-week 45 minute session at the skate park with 1 or 2 Durban BMX Pro/ Semi pro riders. This will entail things from basic bike skills to pedaling a bike and up to levels such as endo’s and peg wheelies. This is directed at riders from the ages of 4 up to 13 with little or no bike skills. There are plans to expand and integrate with the guys from Giba Gorge and get ‘park’ riders some track time too.
The idea behind this is to get kids on bikes from a young age and be schooled by riders in the right environments. There is no cost (for the moment) so it’s free to any of the little guys who would like to try out. All that is required is your own bike and a pair of shoes. Helmets and pads are optional because we won’t be doing anything as extreme for the first few sessions.
