It’s all going down at the Compound at the end of May!
The Compound BMX Facility in Benoni, Johannesburg will be the stomping ground for this inaugural BMX Park Freestyle tournament. The event is set to showcase invited athletes from around South Africa competing in the Pro Division, and is also open to up-and-coming riders to compete in the Amateur Division.
Competitors will be pitted against each other in qualifying heats where judges will be looking for use-of-park, variation, style, tricks and amplitude to make their selection of riders advancing into the Finals. Pro riders will be competing for their share of the R25 000.00 prize purse, a Garmin Instinct smartwatch, and a GoPro Hero9, along with other prizes from the official event partners. A new Mongoose BMX Bike and event partner prizes are up for grabs in the Amateur Division.
The tournament will conclude with the Best Trick competition open to all competing riders.
Park Lines organiser, Ryan van der Spuy says, “It is exciting to bring a professionally run park competition to the local BMX/ Action Sports scene, especially that competitions have been so scarce over the past two years. We finally have the chance to give back to the scene and its riders, all while enjoying a fun day out and exciting BMX action.”
