Here’s the official Press release from Monster Energy on Round 1 of the Street Series that happened recently in Cape Town. A load of really dope photo’s in here from Eric Palmer.
The Street Series hit Cape Town this Sunday for it’s first stop. A heat wave decided to hit us hard with the thermometer staying above 40C, but that wasn’t going to stop the gents from stunting the streets!
Due to the heat, the session started later than planned & everyone met at the Seapoint Library at 3pm. The rail in front caught most of the attention with Benny L getting most of his tricks first try & Paul Ryan & Ed Zunda training behind him. Trains are a normal sight at trails, but on the rail was something new. Pegs, Ice’s, tooth’s, bars out, no handers out… the tricks were flying furiously. After the heat slowed the imports down some of the locals tried their hand. Dean Bailey got a double peg to bar & was trying a few things up the rail. Werner Hendrich got a double peg after sacking himself really solidly. A few others skipped the rail & just sessioned the set & Felix came through with a last minute Ice. Spot one was called & we moved on to the next spot.
The curved ledges under the traffic circle in Greenpoint were next on the cards. A few quick refuel stops were in dire need & with all the shade around the spot things were a bit cooler & straight off the bat Benny L feebled the whole ledge & 360’d out like butter! Paul must have downed a few Monsters because he had some crazy energy & was going crazy all over & linking lines so consistently. The stand out trick for me was Ed’s Nose to Smith to Nose to Bar. Such a tech trick & done so clean, I’m sure I heard a few jaws hitting the floor.
Next on the list was Thibault, but a film shoot there had us move on quickly to good old H-Street. Murry & Morgan had some synchronised stunts going down the 5 stair, Paul was dominating some more with nollie truck to mention 1 of many things he did. Benny L oppo-Ice’d the big Hubba & Dean gave it a go, but got a bit stretched out before he pulled what he was after. Felix was being Felix & got towed in by Greg on a scooter to huge gap down the double set all the way into the road! Ed possibly did the longest 360 SA has ever seen & cleared the entire double set 2nd try. That kind of ended the session, but Hannes was looking at a stupidly monstrous stair gap to firecracker (stair ride). He took a few run ups to check it out & in the process made almost everyone nauseous just looking at it & I think everyone was quite relieved when he decided to call it. I would have loved to have seen it happen, but the risk was so crazy I think he made the right choice.
Top 3 at the end of the day were.
3rd Paul Ryan
2nd Benny L
1st Ed Zunda
Bail of the day went to Werner Hendrich.
Thanks to Monster Energy & DUB for making this possible & thanks to everyone for coming out & supporting this, it was an amazing day of riding!
